Complexigen, LLC is a woman-owned small business, focusing on consulting for bioinformatics for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and small-business Government markets. Unlike many larger companies, we have the flexibility to take on small, short-term projects - and at considerably lower rates.
Bioinformatics requires a delicate balance between the two worlds of biology and information technology. Many times, laboratory researchers either build their own software, or have a computer-literate postdoctoral fellow or graduate student do it. Usually, either the resulting one-off solution fails to scale, or is hard to maintain once its author leaves the lab.
On the other side of the equation, many IT companies apply practices and processes that are simply overkill for research software and systems. They fall in love with the technology, forgetting that it is their customer's problem they were hired to solve - in the most cost-effective way possible. In addition, many IT professionals just don't (or won't) understand the world of science - both in terms of its subject matter and its culture and values.
At Complexigen, we've been straddling the fence to provide a bridge between these two worlds for well over a decade, with members of our team experienced in building informatics systems and performing data analysis for industry leaders like Human Genome Sciences, Schering-Plough, Gene Logic, Proctor and Gamble Pharmaceuticals, the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research, NIH's Center for Information Technology, the Genome Institute of Singapore, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the National Institute of Cancer's Center for Bioinformatics and Information Technology, and the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
As a virtual company, we have low overhead, as well as access to some of the best consultants in the industry. We've been a part of this biosciences communtiy for over 20 years - and we plan to build this business slowly, developing long-term relationships with satisfied customers.
We believe in using Open Source software and Agile development methodologies whenever possible. We also believe in honesty, and valuing customer contact over processes and rigid methodologies.
